It is padded all the way around making it kid friendly and safe for kneecaps as well. The padded top also makes it comfortable to sit on when entertaining, but also firm enough to serve on if you desire. The top seating or serving area is 39" in diameter and weighs 32 pounds, making it sturdy enough to not slide around but light enough to easily move to clean or take to another room.
